Introducción a Chayanov

Published 1976-01-01

It should not surprise us that the Bolsheviks have produced the best theory on the decomposition of the peasant economy and that the populists have created the best interpretations of its internal structure. Alexander Vasilievich Chayanov's work constitutes the most precise, coherent and brilliant scientific formulation of the Russian populist school of agrarian studies; his theories were qualified as marginalist by some Marxists of the time and rejected as the b 1se of mistaken political positions. Today, half a century after the first edition of Chayanov's seminal work, the ideas he put forward are still being debated, especially in underdeveloped countries.
